Dutch Colonial to Modern Elegance / Whole House Remodel & Addition

This nearly unrecognizeable transformation took a dated facade and an addition in disrepair to a modern and layered dream home.
What We Did
In this whole home remodel and addition we created a new rear volume that includes the relocation and expansion of the client’s dream kitchen, a proper walk-in pantry, a new full bathroom, dining room, and screened in porch.
Our clients were exstatic to find that the gambrel* was fake and the roofline behind it was the true structure. Demoing that modernized the structure with a new metal roof and solar panels. The black roof and black exterior color was complimentated by garapa wood** accents to soften the look. We wrapped the back porch in it for privacy and framed the front door and windows to tie it all together.
The two bathrooms were previously dark and cramped. The second floor we kept light and airy with more light blue accents similar to the kitchen. The other was an opportunity to celebrate the client's ecclectic flair and a fun space for guests.
The addition allowed for the kitchen of their dreams. The homeowners valued cooking and eating together as a family as they did growing up and throughout their years together. We repurposed a table similar to his childhood home and made it the centerpiece of their kitchen. And the backsplash tile was a nod to her childhood in Spain. The soft blues and warm woods were a callback to the homes they've owned previously and a reflection to their journey together as a couple.
*Gambrel - a symmetrical, two-sided roof with two slopes on each side
**Garapa Wood - known as "Brazilian Ash," it is a durable and attractive tropical hardwood
