This neighborhood jewel was in beautiful condition with tons of original midcentury details. It was deserving of a thoughtful overhaul by preserving the character, staying true to the aesthetic, and bettering its function, flow and curb appeal.

What We Did
Where a sustainable renovation meets a respect for existing conditions...
In the same neighborhood as their family, these homeowners found a well-preserved midcentury gem that was full of character but in need of both function and finesse.
The exterior was the priority. A fallen tree had destroyed the deck rail, the driveway lacked proper drainage, and the garage was no match for standing water. Inside, updates were modest but essential: new flooring, improved HVAC, more efficient windows throughout and better flow in the basement.
We replaced the original single pane, custom-sized windows with a high-performance upgrade, framed in extended wood jambs made from thermally modified lumber. This material was selected for its durability and rich, natural tone. That same wood was used for the new deck rail and privacy screen, tying the exterior details together. To preserve the original rain chain, we wrapped the new back deck stair around it, turning a functional detail into a quiet focal point.
The basement was once a wide-open space, moonlighting as a gym, office, laundry, and catch-all, lacking any real sense of order. We carved out a proper hallway to give the new office some much-needed privacy, and gave the laundry a thoughtful glow-up—adding a utility sink, more storage, and clean lines that echo the home’s midcentury roots.
